Maruti Suzuki Fronx Review: The Coupe-SUV Disruptor

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx. A weird name, but a fantastic product. It sits perfectly between the Baleno and the Brezza, catering to those who want the style of an SUV but the driving dynamics of a car.

🚙 Design: Baby Grand Vitara

This is the best-looking car in Maruti’s lineup. Period.

  • Front: The upright nose and split headlamps are lifted straight from the Grand Vitara. It gives it road presence.
  • Rear: The sloping fastback roofline and the connected LED taillight bar look stunning. It turns heads.
  • Cladding: The chunky wheel arches try to hide the fact that it runs on 16-inch wheels (which look slightly small).

⚙️ The Return of the Boosterjet

Maruti brought back the 1.0L Turbo Petrol (Boosterjet) engine with the Fronx.

  • Performance: 100 PS and 147 Nm. It is punchy. The mid-range surge is addictive.
  • Transmission: The Turbo is paired with a proper 6-Speed Torque Converter Automatic (with paddle shifters), not an AMT. This makes it far superior to drive than the Baleno.
  • Handling: The suspension is stiffer than the Baleno. It handles corners with more confidence while still absorbing bumps well. The 190mm ground clearance means you don’t scrape speed breakers.

🏁 Verdict

Pros Cons
✅ Stunning crossover design ❌ Rear headroom is compromised due to coupe roofline
✅ 1.0L Boosterjet engine is fun to drive ❌ Interior is identical to Baleno (doesn’t feel unique)
✅ 6-Speed AT is smooth and responsive ❌ Expensive top-end pricing (touches C-SUV territory)

The Verdict: The Fronx is for the Style-Conscious Buyer who also wants a bit of fun. It makes you wonder why you’d buy a boxy compact SUV when a crossover looks and drives this good.
